Hi everyone. Hopefully someone has some info for me about intakes and carbs. The street stock class i run in allows us to use any cast iron 2 bbl intake. I have heard there is a stock cast hi-rise that came off a bus or truck. Does anyone have any info on this intake? Or what is the best intake to use in a street stock class. And whats the best Rochester 2 barrel carb to use? Is there any tricks you can do to carbs? Any info would  be awesome. Thanks.

First, if you can run any 2bbl intake, I'd look for the intake of a first gen Monte Carlo. Those cars came with 2bbl Holley carbs from the factory, which'll be better than just about any Rochester 2G unit.

It wouldn't surprise me if a high-rise 2bbl intake was on a bus or heavy truck engine. I don't know what years, but I'd figure anyhting in the mid to late 60s would be best to scout for, a heavy truck or old school bus.

The best 2bbl intakes are casting last 3 number "313" or "467". These are non-egr intakes used of the higher HP 350/327's from 69-70. Can find some on ebay, or Kinetic Performace for around 100 bucks. The 313 with "Canada" cast on it, is supposed to be the best.

You can get a good flowing 2G (500 cfm) from Kinetic Performance. Its a large bore 2G (remeber the 2G's came with different bore sizes). You can also get a cheater carb from them that flows 680 cfm. They rejet their 2g's to for holley jets. I personally bought one of the 680's and it looks to be a very well made unit. I don't know if you can trust some of the cheap 500 cfm 2g's you see on ebay. If you want to do the junkyard thing, I would try to find a 2G from a truck. Stock car 2g's flow 300 or something sad like that. I tried running one, and it wasn't very good.

I wouldn't waste your time looking for a high raise cast intake. I've never heard of such a thing. Even if you find one from a bus or truck your tech guy is going to spot that real quick anyhow. I'd bet it wouldn't flow that well anyhow, as a truck or school bus wouldn't be a high reving engine. Also with the Holley 2bbl of a 1st gen Monte is going to be very hard to find, and probably won't flow that well anyhow. Again your tech guy is going to question using a holley.

Atfer doing some reaserch it appears I was a little off in my previous post. The first gen Monte Carlos did come with Rochester 2bbl carbs. The Holley carb I was talking about was a factory replacement meant for these cars. The Holley replacement carb featured the same mounting flange as the Rochester 2bbl so it would bolt directly onto the stock manifold without an adapter. These carbs were a straight Holley design with the Rochester flange.

Since this was a direct replacement carb, I'd check with your tech inspector, or whoever manages the rules for your track/class, and see if you can legally use this carb.

chevy did make a Hi-Rise SBC 2 bbl intake.  i own 3 of these intakes.  IT IS cast iron and has a chevy casting # on it.  but according to any and all chevy records the casting # doesn't come up.  but i was able to find information on the intake and what it was made for and so forth.  and i can tell you that you will not be able to find a vehicle to get the intake off anymore as i can gaurentee they are all gone.
