Tony Stewart - NASCAR whipping boy?

Unless you were living under a rock, you've heard or read the comments by Tony Stewart comparing NASCAR to professional wrestling after the Phoenix race. NASCAR promptly brought Stewart in, who then quickly apologized and "ate crow" while the NASCAR Gods watched with amusement.
Were Stewart's comments legitimate? Is there somethign to be said about suspicious "debris" cautions during a race? Is it fair that drivers can't criticize NASCAR without having to endure retaliation for pointing out an obvious and painful truth to the sanctioning body?

any athlete that insults the sport they participate in are likely to get fined and i dont think he's a whipping boy its just that he's really the only driver thats truly vocal about his displeasure.
