Back years ago I was heavily into NASCAR but when they stopped running STOCK cars and began running race cars I quit watching.  Well, got a new girlfriend and she is a NASCAR nut so I have tried to watch it again.  Well, it's ok, if you like watching hybrid race cars.  But personally if I want to watch race cars, I will watch the Indy cars or AA dragsters.  So I am trying to find an organization that races actual stock cars like one would be able to buy from a dealership.  I thought I would try here on this forum in hopes that someone might know where I can look...

Yeah, it's called I-85/75 running through Altanta! You won't find "stock" cars going faster anywhere else racing against each other to get across town!

Being serious, about the only places you'll find "stock" type raicng is at your local short track. Most late model racecars are fairly stock, minue the required safety equipment and usual weight reduction that takes palce with any racecar.

The doors still open on Australian V8 Supercars. See the V8 Supercar web site and you can find and read their Group C Tech Rules.  I found them without too much trouble.

Sorry NASCAR, you used to be real, now your product is a somewhat enjoyable facade. While I still loosely follow the Cup Series, as a fan going back to the first races at Riverside and later Ontario, you ignore or suppress your own history.  Fact is that the Daytona and Talladega tracks were built to allow "stock cars" to achieve open wheel race car speeds.  But as soon as Baker busted 200MPH in 1970, in a Dodge Daytona, off came the wings. Then as soon as Bill Elliot busted the track records in 1987, you went on a long term tangent of impeding stock car speed with restrictor plates. Then there is the 33 years of Winston Cup.  You can't even say those words or lend visible support to the Winston Cup Museum.

What is with that "Chase for the Championship?"  Without that, Jeff Gordon would have six championships now and would be threatening to tie Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt in 2008.  Instead, NASCAR (read: Brian France) caved to television networks that narrow mindedly wanted playoffs, like in the team sports they televise.  And one of those networks already bailed on NASCAR.  Dump the stupid "Chase."  The Craftsman Truck Series was tight to the end in '07.  LEARN!  We fans see and understand more than you want to believe, and right now we believe it is all about Brian France, not us or anyone else.

With the introduction of the Pontiac G8 in the USA in 2008, the baseline car that makes up one of the two authorized cars, for V8 Supercars in Australia, will be on our shores.  If Ford imports the Falcon or builds a similar RWD machine, an evenly mixed speedway and road course series would most interest me as a race fan.  Couple that with a series like Trans-Am, with the new pony cars, and that would be a great weekend of racing.

Hopefully, NASCAR will alter it's steadfast approach before someone else steals their thunder.  Otherwise, someone will launch a new preeminent series, like American V8 Supercars and an IMSA or Trans-Am like pony car series.  I'm sure the manufacturers would like to see their products represented by more than headlight decals.

Dodge Avenger Research
Dodge Avenger Explore the new Avenger and examine the various features it has to offer. The Avenger has a $1,500.00 cash rebate, which will help you save money on your next new car purchase. It has had 2 vehicle recalls, which can give you an idea about its reliability. You also might want to research the Volkswagen EOS and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder.
