Hello friends and welcome to another edition of the Starstruck Report. It was a very hot night again at the track and the racing was just as hot.  We had three winners in three modified races. Let's go straight to the action this week.

Modifieds 1 (30 laps): Mike Rudy (8) ran the fastest lap in qualifying.  Chris Johnson (36) started this race on the pole via the redraw.  C. Johnson (36) had the early lead in this race. Brian Scott (34) brought out the first caution in turn 4.  They lined up on the cone restart where Rudy (8) took the outside lane and Johnson (36) stayed on the inside. Rudy (8) took the lead on this restart. Lap 19, Brian Scott (34) spins in turn 3 bringing out the second caution. Ironically, Scott (34) would also get the wave around since he was the only car a lap down at the time. The second cone restart was set up and Rudy (8) took the inside lane and held off Johnson's (36) challenge. Lap 21, Tim Layne  (22) and Chris Hoylman (37) got together in the backstretch. This set up the final cone restart, where Rudy (8) chose the inside lane and held off  C. Johnson (36). Rudy would claim the checkered flag. On the redraw, he was set up to start in 7th place.

Soon after, Butch Mixell (22) spun in turn 2. Tony Mills (61) would gain the lucky dog.  On the cone restart, Thomas (99) took the inside lane and held off Mike Chapman (18) but there would be no official lap. Jordan Bell (17x) hit the wall in just outside of turn 2. Thomas (99) and Chapman (18) lined up the same way and Thomas retained his lead. Thomas (99) retained the lead. David Blankenship (4) wrecked in turn 2. Thomas (99) took the inside lane and held off Chapman (18) on the restart. Thomas (99) would claim the checkered flag in this race.

This made for a good night of racing. Now let's give out the weekly awards.

Performance of the week: This week's winner will be Chris Hoylman (37 mod) for winning the middle race in the triple 30's. For the record, this is Hoylman's first win at Southside Speedway. His last win ever was in 2004 at Ace Speedway during the Rolling Thunder Modified Tour.

Tough Luck Modified: This week, I am only giving one award out. There were no DNF's in the first modified race. However, Mike Tomlin (73) failed to complete one lap in the last two 30 lap races by pulling into the pits during the warmup laps.
Tough Luck Ucar: Rusty Bennett (92) pulled into the pits early in the race and was the first car out.

Tough Luck Street Stock: Ethan Ayers (69) started this race on the pole and lost 11 positions in the course of the race.

Late Model Carb rule change: "The intent of the optional carburetor rule in section 23 F was to run a Stock Holley carburetor model number 7448 (350 cfm). This was to be the same carburetor as stated in section 23 A which specifically addressed the type that Ford’s may use. Although the intent was to do so, the model number 7448 and 350 cfm were not previously stated in section 23 F. Late Model Sportsman 2010 rules have been amended for clarification." All I can say is very interesting we are having a rule change mid season. I just hope the rule is enforced down the middle. I will let all of you draw your own conclusions on this matter.

Flashback:  In 1963, Ned Jarett won the last Nascar Grand National race held at Southside Speedway. He won the race by a margin of 2 laps and 8 seconds. Richard Petty was second and it was his best finish at Southside. Nascar's series continued to race at South Boston through 71 and Langley through 70. I will post on the other tracks stories in future columns.

Starstruck Report Future: The Starstruck Report is now available on facebook. The content will include the regular weekly wrap ups you have read here. There will also be exclusive material on the facebook group that will include our drivers on the road and weekly points race analysis. Unlike this wrap up, the mid week columns will be all commentary and discussion. Join me on facebook at The Starstruck Report.

Looking ahead: All divisions other than Street Stock will be seeing action next week. It's double points night and some of the races are very tight. I will be addressing that in the midweek report as well as any breaking news. That's all for now. I will see you at the races.
